Sifu Rick Spain's Wing Chun Fung Fu Organisation is second to none. When you join this school you expose yourself to a huge wealth of knowledge (over 40 years) not only from Sifu Spain but also from the senior students. They are a testament to his extremely helpful, focused, efficient, practical style of teaching.

Since joining my fitness, self esteem, positive disposition and physical strength have all increased as a result of training at WCKFO. I find it a great place for learning not only martial arts but also applicable for meeting life's challenges and meeting new friends. It's changed my lifestyle in an extremely healthy way, as a result I have not looked back.

The mat culture that Sifu Spain has instilled is one free of ego, yet a place where one can pressure test this amazing system through sparring and rolling. Everything is explained to the students, nothing is trained for the "sake" of it. The stand up and ground components of training taught by Rick Spain flow and compliment each other perfectly. From beginners to advanced if you want to learn a complete effective martial arts system this is the school for you.

Conveniently located near Central station and open 7 days a week; if your currently not training a martial art/want a change drop by to the WCKFO it will make a huge positive change to your life.

I have traveled the world and practiced martial arts for about 20 years and tried a number of clubs, kwoons and dojos. And I always say to whoever wants to hear it that Wing Chun Kung Fu Organisation in Sydney is the best club I have had the pleasure to learn form. I have started with them three and a half years ago and here are the reasons why I believe they are the best:
- the mat culture is second to none, and there is no fear of getting injured, bullied, or embarrassed: students, senior students and sifu are all very respectful and very mindful of others
- the learning environment provides a mix of challenge and "achievability", which encourages everybody to strive for their personal best
- Sifu Rick Spain is incredibly inspiring and knowledgeable, and never keeps his knowledge to himself, which makes the school an incredibly dynamic learning place
- his senior students are very good leaders and teachers
- the martial art we learn is effective, thoughtful, and backed up by the very simple laws of physics and bio-mechanics and the fact that it works on the mat, in the cage, and in the street. No rubbish, or justification for what doesn't work... The system is efficient and in perpetual evolution.
I foresee many more years of thriving and a legacy left to the world that will be talked about for generations.

I first started at Wing Chun Kung Fu Organisation Sydney in 2004. I didn't know anything about the school when I first turned up, but I quickly learnt that this school is the real deal. The school is fun and serious at the same time. You will be challenged to push yourself and grow as both a person and as a martial artist; and guess what, that challenging edge never stops. First rate instruction in realistic, pressure-tested techniques. Training here made me much more realistic about my abilities, both in a humbling and confidence building way. I feel much more equipped to handle a street situation, and far less likely to ever get caught up in one to begin with. We are taught to see situations emerging and how to handle them before conflict even begins. However, if there is no option but to fight yourself out or to assist someone, heaven help the person silly enough to put you in that situation. Even then, our response is moderate. What makes this school stand out? The truly expert tuition from Sifu Rick Spain and the dedicated teachers at the school. The friendly fearsome mat culture. The challenging sparring. The awesome techniques, the seamless multi-modal approach to combat (stand-up, takedown and groundfighting) and the journey through the belts. The best school you will ever find.See MoreRead Less"

I trained with Sifu Rick Spain at the Wing Chun Kung Fu Organisation for just under a year and the only reason I stopped was because I moved states for uni. Sifu Rick Spain is nothing short of a genius when it comes to kung fu and the art of fighting in general. His ability to break down different techniques is fantastic and means that no one feels left behind. The thing I loved most about the Wing Chun Kung Fu Organisation was the deeper spiritual aspect behind what we were learning and the importance of the history of Wing Chun which helped create an environment free of ego and full of a desire to learn. The modern and practical approach to this powerful fighting system mixed with Sifu's extensive knowledge on the history and principles of Wing Chun makes for an unparalleled experience. I have trained in many different martial arts including muay thai, boxing, brazillian jiu jitsu and spent some time in a couple of mma schools and i still havent found anything as well rounded as what is on offer at the Wing Chun Kung Fu Organisation. I highly recommend this school to anyone whos interested in learning self defence and gaining a greater understanding of the 'art' in martial arts.See MoreRead Less"

As an active member of the WCKFO for over 26 years I don't seriously don't have enough space to list all of the benefits that I have experienced since beginning my journey into the martial arts so long ago. Sifu Rick Spain has been one of the most influential elements in my life and has helped to mold me into the person that I am today. His instruction is second to none, his knowledge is based in fact and experience, and his way of teaching is the model from which I still conduct my own training sessions today. Not only have I competed successfully under his tutelage but more importantly I have become a better person physically, mentally and spiritually. The school itself is a great place of learning with an atmosphere of family and friendship maintained at all times. The perfect place for developing oneself in the pursuit of excellence not only in the martial arts but as a better human being.See MoreRead Less"

I've been training at Wing Chun Surry Hills Academy, headed by the extraordinary Sifu Rick Spain, for more than ten years. Sifu Spain is both a master martial artist and a master teacher. He is a consummate, fully rounded martial artist who possesses a deep and profound knowledge of Wing Chun kung fu and other martial arts, including boxing, karate and Brazillian Ju Jitsu, as well as of self defence and fighting psychology. Sifu Spain is equally adept and knowledgeable about modern training methods, and is a progressive, patient and empathetic teacher. The school has wonderful instructors, and has a friendly, open atmosphere. The ethos is supportive, but committed, and this is reflected in the students. Having experienced a number of martial arts styles in different countries, I can thoroughly, and completely, recommend the school.See MoreRead Less"

I was introduced to Sifu Rick Spain Wing Chun school by a friend in end of 2004. I was quickly impress by the amazing skills, teaching capabilities and charisma of Sifu Rick Spain. His teaching is incredible, his wing chun is based on rock solid foundation and his system has evolved and keep evolving to be one of the most versatile ever. All the dimensions from ground, clinch, close and long range are presents. All the aspects, from the roots of wing chun, the physical training, spirituality and scientific grounds are part of Sifu Rick Spain system. It has been part of my life for more than 8 years training in his school.
I enjoyed every class, learning, training, pushing my limits again and again, challenging myself and keep on progressing in this great training environment and in life. It was througly a fantastic experience.

To whom it may concern
I began training Hung Suen Wing Chun Kung Fu in 2001 under Sifu Rick Spain, after seen many Bruce Lee films, and found that he trained in Wing Chun. I found Sifu Rick Spain a very friendly, down to earth individual, who was knowledgeable about the concepts and teaching of the system with a both traditional and modern day approach. Since I have began training in the martial arts, I have gained confidence, great discipline, and my health and strength improved dramatically. At work I find that I have more stamina and a constant 'energy' and positive attitude that spills from training in the martial arts. I also find that day to day annoyances just 'bounce off' more easily, as I believe training in martial arts has made me less succeptible to stress.See MoreRead Less"

I highly recommend WCKF Sydney because

1. Sifu Rick Spain is extremely knowledgeable and very good and keen at teaching what he knows. His scientific approach to the way he teaches
means that you will enjoy learning the right things.

2. it will have something for everyone.
the club covers a broad spectrum of martial arts. styles range from striking to ground fighting, activities from general fitness, traditional forms to self defence/sparring. Rick caters the intensity levels to challenge you but still keep it enjoyable.

3. Club members are a great and fun bunch of people to train and socialise with.

4. the club is well equipped. Large matted area, good range of weight training equipment and lots of martial arts gear.

If you wish to find a new way of life, test your limits and appreciate just what you can achieve - this is the place for you. Sifu Rick Spain is the commensurate martial artist, his senior students give tirelessly to support and guide you. The other students on the mats welcome you and share your martial arts journey, all without ego or arrogance. My experience has shown me how much there is to learn and Sifu's methodology of instruction is second to none. Be warned you will be challenged, you will be pushed and you will be tested - but then again you would not be a martial arts student unless it did. Personally, this is where I will train till I cannot any longer walk up the stairs to this pinnacle of martial arts learning.See MoreRead Less"

I started my journey at Wing Chun Kung Fu Organisation 7 years ago as I was looking to rehabilitate a dislocated shoulder and increase my fitness as I was effectively ordered to exercise by a doctor due to high blood pressure. I used to smoke, weighed 103Kg on a 176cm frame and my lungs used to itch and ache when going up the 2 flights of stairs of the Surry Hills Kwoon. Little did I know the School, the System, my fellow Students and my Sifu would not only dramatically change my physical abilities, mental tenacity, drive, discipline and skills, but they were also to become an important part of my life. Highly recommended.See MoreRead Less"

I first trained at the surry hills Wing Chun Kung Fu Organisation 8 years ago.

Ancient skills where fused with modern curriculum and then mixed with genuine experience in the business of self defence. A practical, highly efficient and honed system is delivered by a sifu of extraordinary teaching ability and passion for the system. He is supported by senior students who have been with the school in many cases for over a decade. Classes provide a mix of striking, grappling, sparring and conditioning.

This organisation can change the way you look at self defence in a mature and family based atmosphere!

I think is the best gym that i have ever tried since i live in Australia. Before to train at Rick Spain Wing Chun i have tried so many other gym, but no one of them made me feel satisfy. Then since i started training with Rick Spain, which is about one year ago, i have never left. I think that this is very complete and it offers many great things, such as great and friendly environment, great wing chun skills and also other styles of martial arts, body building equipment, and especially great theacher ( Sifu). I think also that the price is very reasonable.

Trained with WCKFO many years ago as a teenager and enjoyed it so much but had to stop due to my work office moving out of the city. Have tried other styles but never really found anything that I liked as much. I had always wanted to go back and train there one day and when a branch opened in Blacktown (now at Glendenning) I joined up the first day it was open. I now still train today under Sifu Chris Hoy, who is one of Sifu Rick Spains students. I can highly recommend the Wing Chun style and the WIng Chun Kung Fu Organisation both at Surry Hills and Glendenning.See MoreRead Less"

I have trained under Sifu Chris Hoy and Sigung Rick Spain for about 5yrs mainly at the Surry hill hq. Sigung has developed a kick ass system which challenges the norm and flips paradigms around which in turn I believe takes our system to a whole new level. We train hard, respect and look after each other and push each other to break through our limits.  I have made some good friends here as well.  My journey is currently on hold with 2 kids but I've got unfinished business. I first joined the Surry Hills Wing Chun club in 2007, with the purpose of loosing weight and getting fit. Within the first lesson, I had not only learnt some valuable exercise and defence techniques, but was made to feel welcomed. Apart from the world class teaching structures used in the lessons, the club also offered priceless seminars and extra-curricular lessons that helped participants become well rounded martial artists. I would highly recommend the club to all my friends and family!See MoreRead Less"

The WCKFO is probably the only place to learn Wing Chun the way it was meant to be taught, as a War art. Wing Chun was taught to soldiers fighting a rebellion and as such should be taught, tested then re-taught, which is the way it's done at the WCKFO. Good solid training in the heart of the city."
