In 2010, the Cromwell Valley Elementary PTA hosted the first Annual Family Fit Night. Fit2Order made this event effortless to organize and pull together for a fun filled, interactive evening for the whole family. We had not planned a healthy themed event in several years, and with the rise of childhood obesity, our PTA felt the need to inspire our students and their families to get up, get moving and kick some bad habits. Our event occurred late spring, when everyone is feeing energized and motivated for warmer weather and getting fit. Fit2Order was amazing during the planning process! We briefly met in advance to discuss some goals and objectives for the evening. I provided Pattie and Stacy with some statistics on the background of potential attendees, as well as details from other family fun events, to better prepare for the evening. Fit2Order prepared all the materials that were needed, including the flyer announcing the event. The PTA simply distributed the flyer, tracked the RSVPs, organized and set-up a fresh fruit/water jug table for participants, and took care of reserving the needed space in the school building. Fit2Order did the rest! Their team of seasoned instructors ran 4 stations of fantastic activities including Zumba, Karate, Boot Camp, and Yoga. All of the participants got a taste of the exercises, learned new techniques, and shared several laughs with their families and friends. During the group activities, parents could visit the stations with their children or attend a seminar on How to Pack a Healthy Lunch. I personally attended this discussion and learned some great tips, facts, and fresh ideas for easily incorporating healthier options into a packed lunch. As the evening wrapped up, participants had the opportunity to do biometric testing, do a craft or simply inquire about additional information. Patti & Stacy were on hand the entire evening to set-up, troubleshoot, talk and engage with our families to answer any questions or provide additional information. With minimal prep on the PTA end, this event was a great demonstration of how families can have fun together, while learning fun new ways to be active and eat better. Pattie, Stacy and their vendors were all knowledgeable and well versed on the movements, information, suggestions and answers. They really know their stuff! The evening ran smoothly, and was easy to plan. I was so excited to see the amount of people in attendance, and received lots of positive feedback from parents & students. Families loved the event and requested it for next year. Baby steps are the key.... we hope to expand on this next year, and kick off a fit club for students to continue the tradition of a fit night that the whole family can enjoy.
