About Richard Frantz

Andy's Old Port Pub is a waterfront watering hole frequented by islanders, fishermen, music lovers and locals. Nestled in between Gilbert's Chowder House and the Casco Variety Store, we can be a tricky little Pub to find. Our main entry is five steps above street level and not visible from the sidewalk. The occasional tourist - fortunate enough to find their way to us - always gets a warm welcome and an authentic taste of Portland's Old Port neighborhood.See MoreRead Less

Andy's Old Port Pub is becoming a destination point in the Old Port on Commercial St. in Portland Maine. Rick greets each patron personally in an engaging and friendly manner. His attention to detail is admirable even during the busiest of times. Andy's provides great meals, a full bar, a large comfortable back room available for special events, and music every evening. On Sundays 10% of the proceeds are donated to Changing Tides Foundation...a local non profit supporing Casco Bay island residents in need. Fishermen just off the boat, seasonal cruise ship passengers from around the country and a cast of locals all make Andy's a special place.See MoreRead Less"

Rick is a neighbor of mine. He is an awesome proprietor and general all around nice guy. He is down to earth and straight up fair and honest. He is always ready with a smile and a funny story. I love the atmosphere with which he has infused his pub, Andy's Old Port Pub. And the food is great. I try to get there once a week. It's a townie kind of place where islanders hang out waiting for the ferry. Rick always makes us feel welcome, and he doesn't mind when we all ask for our check at the same time and then charge out the door together to catch the boat.See MoreRead Less"

In the interest of full disclosure, he's my brother and he's done a lot for me in that role....BUT....what he's done for the pub now known as Andy's is transformative! It's a music venue, gastro-pub, and community gathering place - with original art on the walls! There are many good restaurants and watering holes in Portland but Andy's is a valuable part of the community and that deserves recognition!See MoreRead Less"

Wherever I go, I try to experience places not as a tourist, but as a native. In Portland, Maine, you can go to DeMillo's, like tourists do, or Andy's, like the locals do. If you want to genuinely experience this city, stop at Andy's and have a chat with folks from the working waterfront. You'll have a much more memorable visit, for sure."

Rick Frantz and Andy's Old Port Pub bring a fresh look to the Commercial St dining scene in Portland. Whether you stop for a locally brewed draft or fresh cooked lobster mac'n cheese you're in for a treat. Personable servers and a rich waterfront history and clientele compliment the scene."

Andy's is the living, breathing personification of the grit, warmth and often wry good humor that is the Casco Bay. If you keep your ears, eyes and mind open at Andy's you become a down east Mainer, if only for a short while."
