About Shirley Davis Brown

I Retired in 2012 after 40 years as an Insurance Broker, I went back to my first love, writing. I had wrote 4 books between 1987 and 1996, but never published them. My writing style is unique. It is what you would call "sitting on the porch conversational". I write to my readers just as if you were sitting with me in the family room and I was telling a story. My relaxed tone of northern Mississippi and California blend, makes reading my stories all that much easier.

The dialog between my characters offers a realness of ebonics and a touch of that old southern dialect and drawl I inherited from hanging around relatives and other adults from the South. I have written stories, poems and short stories since I can remember, but just recently decided to share them. Since I am pushed into telling many of my stories in social settings, I figured why not get them published. My goal is to not get rich, but to just tell stories. My stories are clean and a 'fast' read and anyone from 10 to 100 will enjoy them and I hope will find a bond with my characters.

All my life I loved reading the classics and writing. The Sweethearts, the stars of my first 4 books, is a Women's Fast Pitch Softball Team. The characters are a composite of the real players, except Josey, my mom. I needed to tell a small part of the Sweethearts story, so they would not be forgotten. They are part of Black History, part of our Community's History.

I would welcome the opportunity to talk with anyone about my books and stories.

Let me say that Author Shirley Davis Brown has some historical books out. The Sweethearts Pride and Equality and her second book Sweethearts the Games Continue.

The writer brings her characters to life. You feel as though you have stepped into the game. You feel the heat from the field on those HOT San Joaquin summer days. You can feel the sweat roll off your face. Hear the cheers as you hear the bat hit the ball out field.. Feel the rumble in the bleachers as everyone stomps their feet, and yes you can smell the hot dogs and popcorn in the air.

These books are more than just an account of events that happened in a small town community. This is history not only of a culture but of a community.
This is something that movies are made out of...

Shirley is a woman who brings her readers into the story and leaves you looking for more. Shirley has done much for me. We have known each other many years. Shirley has brought to me the true definition of the word FRIEND. she is true to herself and does not sugar coat anything. She is professional in all aspects of her life.

I am truly grateful to call her my friend and honored to stand beside her in the literary world. Continued success to Shirley Davis Brown in all endeavors she may pursue...

Purchase her books you will truly enjoy evey word she spills on the pages and you too will be caught up in the game. Will have you running after the ball ....and you will be looking for Doc Cooter as you walk the pages with the author...

I know Shirley through family, she is married to my husband's cousin. I had not heard of "The Sweetheart's Woman Baseball Team" until Shirley began to tell of stories she had written during her younger life from what her mother and friends had told her. Reluctantly I read the first story, then had to finish the set. Shirley can transport you to a time where you feel as though your a member of this team and the spirit, the pride, the tough resiliency of these women is felt as you read through these wonderful stories. I actually was brought to tears at the end of the first and felt great pride and respect for these women and all they endured. Great job Shirley.See MoreRead Less"

Shirley is not only a wonderful person but she is also an accomplished writer. She worked at our insurance brokerage for years and was someone that carried a great deal of empathy for our clients. She was caring, sympathetic and supportive of all of their needs. She was articulate in her correspondence with them always communicating in an easy to understand format (not easy task in the insurance business). Kudos to her for expanding her horizons as a writer.See MoreRead Less"

Shirley Davis Brown is a loving and caring mother, Shirley's heart is worn on her sleeve for those in her inner circle. A women of character, that came from some family character. Shirley supports Ideal Creations by Imelda's "Children of the World" and the No Hungry Kids Program, she has made generous donations to the people of the typhoon stricken Philippines. What can I say about Shirley Davis Brown? She is a down to earth person who cares for those in needSee MoreRead Less"

Shirley Davis Brown is a inspiring and prolific Writer. That displays a writing style that comes from the heart. Her honest , factual, and heart warming
writings are an inspiration to many. By confronting Social issues in a time period. When it was greatly needed. Putting names and faces to the
the real life Heroins. That stood up. Taking a stand and turned a historically /> difficult time into triumph. All through the flare of her writings.See MoreRead Less"

I am Shirley's publisher so I know first hand about her writing and writing style. She has a vision, is very driven and dedicated to the craft. She is also willing to take on new challenges as we have seen in her recent work in the erotic poetry mass collaboration Red Shoes & Sex. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Shirley and hope to do so for many successful years."

I have known Shirley since our high school days. She is a wonderful, caring, and positive person. Shirley has begun a series of books about our hometown and a strong and determined women's fast-pitch softball team of color and their struggles to be known and taken seriously. I love the stories and Shirley's conversational tone as she tells them."
