Serenity at the Quarry (SAQ) provides a cozy home like treatment environment in a house that is nestled 5000 feet high in Baguio city, the summer resort capital of the Philippines. A maximum 0f 4- 6 clients is serviced per cycle .The Clinic is an off-shoot of Life Management Foundation, previously located in Manila with 18 years of experience of helping people to recover from chemical dependency.
Serenity at the Quarry employs the latest Evidenced Based Approaches that combines the best of the 12step principles ( AA) within a CBT framework, cognizant that spirituality is a vital component for True Recovery. The Treatment program for addictions is client driven at the middle phase and contains real power tools that transform the victims of desperation into a fellowship of HOPE and who eventually grow into contributing members of society.

Kuya Junjun leads the substance addiction recovery program at Serenity up in Baguio.

I give him 5 stars because he deserves it. He's really good at what he does, and his approach is especially effective because his group therapy is centered on keeping the group strong and united towards the common goal of recovery which we all share, but he doesnt stop there, because though we are all there for the same reason, each of us had different experiences which led us to that unity. Kuya Junjun then moves on to address our "to each his own" issues, studies the best way to approach and confront them based on the individual's situation and capacity and level of understanding, encourages us to speak what some would rather keep in the shadows, and proceeds to guide us to address how we feel, and then boom, I feel it. I'm not sure it worked the same way for everybody, that's probably just me.

Another thing I find good about the way he runs the program is the balance it provides. One the one hand, he passes on information and knowledge key to recovery and understanding; on the other hand, he focuses on increasing emotional awareness, which is more essential than given credit for, in the journey of recovery.

The community-based outreach programs are also something I enjoyed. When I lose feelings of self-worth, I find it through helping others, in whatever small way that I can.

A little humility can go a long way, this is his program to me in a sentence. I'll be okay as long as I keep my feet planted firmly on the ground.

Thank you kuya Junjun!

Clemente Abella (aka Junjun) my Program Director in Serenity at the Quarry. The first time I met him was during the meeting at MOA way back 2010 (after my first treatment), and from the very first meeting I don’t know why but I always thought of him as a person with a big heart. 2012, I hit my bottom again, and this time he was the only person that came in my mind to ask help for. Right after I asked help from him, he didn’t even had the second thought of helping me… He accepted me as a scholar in his facility at Baguio for almost 7months. The first thing that I learned in his facility is Acceptance (the hardest part). But the good thing with Junjun’s way of dealing with clients, he doesn’t push the thing that I need to learn but because he always want me to practice it in my everyday living, I now manage to learn how to accept things, event, situation and people that I cannot change. 2nd, he is always gentle in dealing with clients who has traumatic experience like mine. I didn’t felt being judge when I put down my deepest secret on the table. He is a type of person whom you can trust. Not to mention he loves doing service work to people who needs help (Bagyong Ondoy, Pablo etc). Dito mo ma experience ang spiritual growth sa pagtulong sa iba ng walang kapalit. Sa kanya ko rin natutunan kung pano magtiwala sa Diyos. Step 3, and most of the time IT WORKS! Hindi ko namamalayan pero sa kaka remind nya to trust my Higher Power, nagagawa ko na rin sya by my own. Ang galling!See MoreRead Less"

It was more than a decade ago when I met Junjun in a treatment facility called Life Foundation.
I remember how excellent he is in managing and helping everyone to recover and ultimately be a
better person again. Personally, I am very grateful to Junjun for bringing me back to where I truly belong.
Through the years I feel very proud sharing to my friends and other aspiring addicts the experience and life philosophy I learned from Junjun.

Too late to give my thanks but I know that you're the best and I wish to see you live a very long life.
The world had only a few species left in your category.

I was an actively using drug addict for almost 23 years. Through the help of Junjun Abella I have been off the streets and now lives a productive member of society, having a marriage based on drug using at one point, now a family oriented, God fearing relationship with spouse and children. Thank you so much for your help Junjun. Keep doing what you love doing...helping others."

Junjun gets a well-deserved excellent rating from me. I first met him sometime when he set up a recovery center in Baguio for those who suffered from substance abuse. If memory serves, it's been a decade since. His passion to help those who have been waylaid by a lifestyle gone wrong is still there. This man walks the talk."

Junjun was the director when I had my internship at LIFE in 2004. Even back then, Junjun showed passion for his work and a knack for challenging people to be their best. I observed this while he facilitated the group sessions and also as he pushed me to try new assignments at the center."
