About Brian Heffron

After Brian Francis Heffron achieved a bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing from Emerson College, he navigated across the Atlantic Ocean under sail (and found Gibraltar), was Director of Photography on "The Imported Bridegroom" a tiny Indy film that received a national theatrical release, created a heart-rending poetry blog within the Notes section of his Facebook profile that drew an avid, dedicated, and international audience, and all the while he wrote, produced, and directed hundreds of hours of television programming for KLCS-TV, a PBS Station focused on education. On Valentine's Day 2010 he published a handmade poetry chapbook that sold out in three weeks! "Sustain Me with Your Breath" then became, and remains, a promotional e-book sensation. Heffron followed that up with "Something You Could Touch", a one hour spoken word poetry CD that broke sales records in its category. Heffron has also won Emmys, Tellys, Aurora, Videographers and the Davis Award, among others plaudits for both writing and television. Brian Francis Heffron's debut novel, Colorado Mandala, mines the complex landscape of 1970s post-Vietnam America to chart the love triangle of a former Green Beret, his lover, and a young wanderer. Colorado Mandala straddles the line between literary and young adult fiction, and distills the author's poetic sensibility into a deeply lyrical work of art. See MoreRead Less

Brian isn't just a fellow writer, and an experienced producer, In many ways since I've known him he has been an inspiration, mentor and teacher. His writing speaks to many people - not just in poetry, but as a novelist his work is incredibly moving, intelligent and human. I have found myself inspired by his willingness to write from especially emotive places as well as show fearlessness in this effort. He turns darkness to light. Likewise he isn't afraid to tell a story no one else has told. His latest work of fiction revolves around one of these subjects and at times I could've mistaken it for non-fiction; he captures human emotion and the strivation life depends on with a rawness that takes you into the story. It has been a pleasure to come to know him, be moved and taught by the skill of his work. If I had to pick one thing that stood out the most about both his writing and his person, it would have to be the nature of his integrity because he is very genuine. You know his work and character are real and he is one who never compromises that in order to produce what so many other artists do, which is work that fits in to some trending style. If he breaks rules it is literally for the work and expression. When he honors tradition, it is always with intelligent truth. He's good. That's it.See MoreRead Less"

I've followed Brian Heffron's career in Television production. His episodes of "The Teacher's Hour" on public television were amazing. I'm sure they were wonderful assets to the teachers who followed and participated in them.

Brian's poetry is beautiful and lyrical, as I own a copy of "Sustain Me with Your Breath", an audio CD of him reading his compilation. His voice is soothing and the words meditative and comforting.

I read his first novel "Colorado Mandela" this past summer while vacationing. I couldn't put it down! I read it in two sittings. It was very captivating and contained all the elements readers hunger for in a novel. It shed light on the psychological and social struggles individuals suffering from PTSD endure.

I have known Brian's work for quite some time. I was just an anonymous person, following his work and enchanted by his poetry.
I have later got to know Brian, and it was a pleasant surprise to discover the man behind the words that have touched me so deeply.
Brian is a a brilliant man, a wonderful man, a wonderful human being, whose views, positions, and work bring light to this world. All his work is touching, by its human content, by the understanding of the intricacy of the human mind and heart. His work is not only brilliant, it is sincere and touching, as Brian himself is.
It has been a delight to discover all his work, and I always look forward to his next project.

I know Brian as a poet and his use of language is so colourful and unique it just makes you want to read on and on. The images that he creates are brought to life clearly with his vivid descriptions as he portrays a portrait of life. I understand that Brian has a new book out called Colorado Mandala, if the book is anything to go by Brian's poetry then this should be a fabulous read. I know that he has worked tremendously hard in the creation of this book. If you are interested and want to know more about his book you can find his website details here: http://brianheffron.net/brianheffron.net/Welcome.html .See MoreRead Less"

I have followed Brian's writing for several years. A favorite treasure of mine is his poetry book (mine is made of beautiful handmade paper & signed) I listen to his cd often in my car while I am driving for awhile alone because his voice is calming & the words inspire.
He writes with honesty and clarity; with straight words & expressions that connects easily with everyone.
The passion of his compassion is evident, and moving.

His new book, Colorado Mandala, is a fascinating story that takes you on a guided journey - so smooth that you will not want to put the book down once opened!

He is passionate about his work, whether it is his writing, or his work in television. Brian has regarded his work as an important part of his life and not just a job. I have known Brian for several years, and have had the pleasure of being witness to the high quality and class he has achieved in his works.

Brian is a creative, intelligent, and sensitive writer. He has the ability through his words to carry the reader into the moment of his writings, and make them feel like they are a part of what they are reading.

I recommend Brian as a highly qualified producer and director of not only his own works, but the works of others who, like Brian, bring to the world a better understanding of who we are as humans.See MoreRead Less"

In the 70's I spent some time in Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs hiking, camping and having a good time. Brian Heffron's novel brings vividly back those wonderful memories. His vivid descriptions of the area, his character development, along with the background of the aftermath of the Vietnam War will bring back wonderful thoughts of friends and events in that era. His book, Colorado Mandala, I would highly recommend to anyone. He is a fine writer and am looking forward to seeing and reading great stories penned by him in the future.See MoreRead Less"

Brian is a wonderful writer. Brian's story comes to life and you are in the moment. His ability to bring the reader with him on the journey he writes of, is crisp and clear and you are one with the writer as well as the characters in his book. Brian is also a great poet and it is worth the time to read his poetry and feel your own emotions become in sinc with another human being and know that we all share the same feelings and emotions just at different times in our lives..See MoreRead Less"

I have been acquainted with Brian for a few years now, and know him to be one of the most honest, forthright, passionate people I have ever met. He has the courage of his convictions. His ability to portray the effects of PTSD on people is haunting. As one dealing with this myself, it is heartening to know that someone as eloquent and brave in the face of daunting bureaucracy, stands tall and visible for those who cannot. I would trust him with my life. Enough said.See MoreRead Less"
