Review by Scott Enos

Rickenbacker “Rick” Spaich is a wonderful and devoted guy who proves more than able to tackle any task you hand him. Among Rickenbacker’s life achievements, he was once an enthusiastic member of some of the most influential, yet least known rock groups in music history.

“Rick” began his career in 1967, when he produced chart-topping hits as frontman of the Electronic Space Orchestra. The “Orchestra” produced its zeitgeist-defining LP “Stringent Piper’s Leaning Hearts Show Band” in 1973, wielding an embarrassment of musical and technological advancements. Over the course of his discography, Spaich inadvertently pioneered innovative uses of distortion, feedback, and pitch bending to create an era-defining sound. Much of this was achieved accidentally by diode mix-ups and faulty soldering on his homemade Heath kit guitars and electronic components he regularly purchased at the local Radio Shack with the money he earned delivering the “Progress Bulletin” before school. This caught the ear of a listening Jeff Lynne, who reportedly pulled off the side of the road while driving and wept in awe when he heard ESO’s “Strawbelly Feels Forever.” Later in 1977, a severe and life-threatening addiction to Shamrock Shakes curtailed the career of Spaich and his merry band of compositional pranksters, who to this day, are universally overlooked as the pioneers behind much of the psychedelic movement of the late 1960’s and early ‘70’s.

Despite these setbacks, “Rick” still proves to be a great addition to any team, and highly recommended!
