About Gisela Sedlmayer

Gisela (Gigi) Sedlmayer was born on 19 May 1944 in Potsdam, a suburb of Berlin in Germany.
Her family escaped to the West just before the infamous wall went up. They moved around in Germany until finally settling in Munich where Gigi studied architectural drafting and met Albert in 1965, marrying in December 1967. She worked as a civil draftsperson in various private consultancies in Munich.
Since her uncle was a writer, she tried to write short animal stories herself. Nothing further came of it, but she developed a love for the written word and started to consume books.
In May 1975, Gigi and her husband moved to New Zealand. Because of language challenges, she started a handicraft business. As a specialty, she made colourful parrots of which she sold thousands in a few years.
In 1988, they decided to adopt and became adoptive parents of twin girls the year after. They lived in New Zealand for eighteen years and moved to Australia in September 1992.
Two years later Gigi was diagnosed with cancer. After operations and radiation, she withdrew, thinking that she would probably soon be dead, like her friend who died of cancer, but her two little girls gave her the courage to keep going. After a few years, still among the living, her brain started to work again, so she thought, 'Get a grip on yourself and do something good with your life'.
She remembered the time she wrote short stories and got inspired again, seeing her husband Albert writing the story of their adoption. Her English became increasingly better so she pressed on to develop her creative writing.
Albert taught her how to use a computer and she wrote many short stories. She entered them in competitions and often got very good reports back, which gave her confidence to go on writing. One day the idea for the TALON series came to her and she spent the next several years bringing the story and the characters to life.
She now loves writing and spends most of her time at the computer, developing new story lines. She also loves travelling, 4x4 touring, swimming, gardening, handcrafting, reading, fossicking and enjoys good adventure DVD's or going to the movies.

I met Gisela (Gigi) on Facebook as a struggling fellow author. I found it intriguing to be communicating with someone In Australia, as I have always wanted to go there. We made a deal (I'll buy yours if you buy mine) and quickly swapped books. So I began to read the first book of her Talon series. At first I particularly liked the short chapters. I was flying a good deal for my job at the time. I've never been very fond of flying (funny irony that her first book is entitled "Come Fly With Me), so my attention span on a plane is very short. I could read a chapter, spend the next 10 minutes agonizing over plane turbulence, then move on to the next chapter, and so on. I would recommend her book for anyone that travels and has my same problem. But aside from that, the book is well written and easy to read, with a unique story that compels you to continue reading. I think it would be a good book to read out loud to children. Also as an author I've always had a personal quirk about typos in published works, and though I perused "Come Fly With Me" thoroughly, I could not find a single one. That tells me the author is very attentive to detail and proud of what he or she produces. Gigi also has more energy at marketing her works than I seem to, as I see posts about her Talon series on Facebook quite often. I eventually received good feedback from Gigi about my own novel "Empire Breakers," which was well appreciated.See MoreRead Less"

Gisela is one of the best writers I know, and I know many, including some famous ones. Her Talon series was intended for tweens and teens, but it exceeds the norm so far that it's a series for anyone, of any age. I'm quite old, and a professional editor, so my standards are very high. I'm not her editor, but hers is so fabulous I've recommended she keep her no matter what. You see, Gisela is unique in another way. I think it was German, she spoke before she moved to Australia, and now she speaks Australian, but is able to write in the Queens or American English, as well as German and I think Spanish too. Quite a feat for anyone. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't begin speaking and writing in Japanese or Chinese soon, she's that good. Okay I know you think I've laid it on a little thick, but you should read her work, then meet her in person if possible. Then you'll be a believer. Don't do it the other way round, I did, I couldn't believe that she could write so well, knowing how she speaks normally, but she's brilliant at turning a phrase and creating realistic characters, even when there's a bit of fantasy involved.See MoreRead Less"

As the author of twenty-five books, who started writing fiction on retirement from a professional engineering career, I am aware of just what it takes to become an author of a single book, let alone a series. Anyone who achieves this is a capable professional. I have read some of Gisela's work and consider it worthy of inclusion in my personal library.
