Are life insurance carriers obligated to continue providing life insurance once they've sold you a policy?

Health insurers seem to be able to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions or to decline the renewal of a policy for someone who's too sick.  Does anything similar happen in life insurance?

There are many ways to look at this

There is no obligation.  If you have a term policy which runs out and you want to continue coverage you will have to go through another medical.  If you are less healthy now then you were before, your rate may go up.or you may get declined if you are very unhealthy or now have a condition.

If you a term policy and a few years into the contract you decide to convert a portion of the insurance to whole life or universal life, the conversion is based on your original rating at the time of taking the term, theres no medical required.

As long as you pay your premiums, they must pay out a claim.  Also, it wil not pay if you are doing something illegal--robbing a bank, participating in a riot, etc.....
